Tim Hur: Hi, my name is Tim Hur. I am from Atlanta, Georgia. I own a boutique real estate firm in Atlanta called Point Honors and Associates, Realtors.
Molly McKinley: Perfect. Perfect. What does the word undisruptable mean for you?
Tim Hur: The word undisruptable. When you really think about it, I think that word really is the crux of what we do in real estate. Nothing in the real estate, yes, we talk about the change and evolution, but what we do as a core, it is what we do. It is real estate. My real estate is undisruptable.
Molly McKinley: That’s awesome. What are some of the things that you are doing to service your client that people have no idea about?
Tim Hur: Being in Atlanta, we are a multicultural market. We have so many different types of clients that we have to work with and service. And as we grow into a melting pot, it’s just a global economy. We work with so many different clients. It’s amazing that we can help every single client achieve their dream of home ownership. It is what the core real estate of what we do. Home ownership matters in many different communities. And I have the fortune of being Korean American, becoming the incoming president of the Asian Real Estate Association of America in 2022, where we represent 17000 members, all across the U S and across the world. What we do on a daily basis of real estate, never changes, is to service our clients, and taking care of our clients day after day. And I think that’s what we do and I think that’s what makes us different.
Molly McKinley: Is there a moment or a story that you have where you just went way above and beyond? That you’re like, “People have no idea actually who I do.”
Tim Hur: I think that our jobs as real estate agents or realtors, it’s very difficult. It’s never an easy transaction. Several years ago when the lending world had changed in to the three day rule with the TRID policies, just real estate jargon, but there were some changes that were made in the real estate industry, in the lending world, where we had to make sure that the consumer was aware three days prior before the closing happened. And the banks did not send the disclosures correctly, because they would just implement it. And I actually had emailed the President, Vice President, the CEO, CMO. I found out how their email address worked from LinkedIn, emailed every single person and the CDU. And after getting, “no, no, no, no, no”, around 11:50 PM, 10 minutes before it was due, we got the email, they got the call, the email sent out. And I think that’s the over and beyond, what we have to do sometimes just to make sure that we take care of our clients. Because three families would have been affected that day, because it was a back-to-back-to-back closing. So it’s not easy, what we do, but it definitely is rewarding, just knowing that you went really above and beyond for your client.
Molly McKinlye: That’s awesome. How important is your reputation in this business?
Tim Hur: Oh, reputation is everything in our business and reputation is everything in my business, especially owning an independent, a boutique firm. It’s not that we have the brand to back me. It’s myself. And I have to make sure that my reputation, whether it is between other agents, other brokers, other industry people, is kept to a level where I’m happy. I can’t please everyone, but reputation is key. That’s how we survive.
Molly McKinley: If you are sitting around a table with a bunch of folks who were feeling really heavy with all of the fear-mongering, what message do you want to share with them?
Tim Hur: Real estate, I have had the fortune of doing this ever since I graduated. This is all Botox, by the way, So I’ve been doing this for a lot longer than you think. But real estate has always been a vibrant, changing world. There’s a lot of fear-mongering. There’s a lot of information out there. There’s too much information sometimes, and it can really confuse a lot of people. I think at the end of the day, if you use a trusted advisor, that’s what we are. At the end of the day, you’re not going to go wrong. Our job is to guide you and help you. And I think that’s where I know that our team, my team, or myself has really distinguished ourselves. We will help you from start to finish and you’re not alone. And I think that will help with a lot of the fear-mongering, the inaccurate information, or the too much information out there. So I think that’s what we really need in our industry.
Molly McKinley: What’s a word, you have a moment of something? What’s on your heart? Anything else that you want to share? Any kind of wisdom that you’ve experienced?
Tim Hur: There’s a lot of information out there and there’s a lot of change coming. A lot of us, we are in the business of real estate because we truly, really want to help people. It’s great. We know that this is an industry that’s touched many people’s lives, but we are ultimately helping you purchase the biggest transaction of your life. Reputation is key. What we do is key. It really, really is important. And I think that products like Rate My Agent are very important because it gives a platform for agents like myself, who don’t use a third party or a different site, to really have the opportunity to get our reputation and our namesakes out there. And it’s a great platform, a great program. And for me it
