Meet Joe Schutt

Joe Schutt is Undisruptable

“No matter what comes your way, whether it’s a new technology, a new company, a new business, as long as you are being who you are and the real you, you’re going to succeed and nobody will be able to disrupt that about you.”

Joe Schutt is a master connector. If you’ve ever been to a real estate industry trade show, you’ve likely met him or have seen him, and his touch of orange, in action. He’s a friend to everyone and when he says, he’s willing to help, he’s not kidding. If Joe tucks you under his wing, you will be well taken care of. This applies to his clients, friends and everyone he encounters. This is his calling card and people are his priority.

“I think all the noise in the industry is very distracting for some. As realtors, we have a lot of shiny objects syndrome and we look at the new thing that’s coming out. Let’s pay attention to our basics, get the technologies and the tools that help with that. Keep our heads down, focus, but still pay attention to what else is out there because those things may disrupt, but if you focus, be authentic, be yourself, and do your job and pay attention to your clients and be there for them and your agents and your customers and everybody else out there, then you’ll be totally fine because you’re being that authentic self and nothing will disrupt that.”

To know Joe is to love Joe. The kick in his step and the spark in his eye lifts up those around him. He understands the highs and lows of real estate and has weathered numerous storms with grace and patience. Now that he’s at the top of his game, he knows the importance of focusing on his relationships and his reputation. This is what makes Joe undisruptable.

Joe Schutt: My name is Joe Schutt and I’m the broker/owner of Unit Realty Group in downtown Boston.

Molly McKinley: Perfect. What does it mean for you to be undisruptable? What does that word mean for you?

Joe Schutt: I think the word undisruptable to me means just being yourself, being authentic, being the real you out in the world. No matter what comes your way, whether it’s a new technology, a new company, a new business, as long as you are being who you are and the real you, you’re going to succeed and nobody will be able to disrupt that about you.

Molly McKinley: Share with me about what you wish people knew about what your job really does for your client? What do you really do for your clients?

Joe Schutt: I think the world really needs to understand that realtors have the perception of they throw a sign in the yard, they sell a house, and they’re done. I think what they really need to see is behind the scenes because on Instagram the other day, I actually posted that I was Swiffering my client’s unit because they were relocated to California. It’s now vacant and I’m the one taking care of that for them. There are days that you’re going in and you’re cleaning the vestibule of an entire complex because nobody did that. There were Christmas trees, parts and pieces, needles everywhere. You’re out there cleaning that. So it’s not all glory and high fives and this and that. We do actually get into the trenches and we do a lot more behind the scenes that is a little bit down and dirty sometimes. Whether you’re picking up dog poop, you are cleaning up the fuzz from the dog, you’re Swiffering a unit. So there’s just a lot more out there that we do that’s not glamorous. You just see the glamorous parts because that’s what people want you to see and they’re not really truly showing their authentic selves. By doing that, again, one more thing that makes you undisruptable.

Molly McKinley: Perfect. What are you doing, with all of this noise that’s happening around us in this industry? What would you share with someone else? What do you have to say about this?

Joe Schutt: I think all the noise in the industry is very distracting for some. As realtors, we have a lot of shiny objects syndrome and we look at the new thing that’s coming out. I do. I come back from a conference and I have 10 new things I want to implement and all of my agents and my business partner at the time were like, “Nope, back it up. Regroup.

Molly McKinley: That’s awesome. How important is your reputation?

Joe Schutt: I think my reputation is probably the most important thing in this industry because once you do one little thing wrong and your reputation is affected by that, it follows you, and it’s hard to come back from something like that. I’m really well known in my market for someone who is always saying yes. If there’s a showing that needs to be done, if an agent can’t make it, if something needs to happen, if I need to get somebody’s buyer in there into one of my listings, where I’m a yes man, and I will be out there to say yes, I will help you with that. Yes, I will help you with that.

Molly McKinley: Any final words of wisdom that you want to share about this moment in time in the industry and as it relates to being undisruptable?

Joe Schutt: I think in this moment in time to be undisruptable is to pay attention to what’s going on. Don’t let it affect you and be your authentic self and everybody will love you and you will love the world
